About this website
Accessibility Statement
The Williamsville Police Department is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
Our commitment
We want every resident and visitor to be able to find information and use the services on this website independently. We design and test our pages against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for state and local government websites.
Accessibility is ongoing work. We review new content and features as they are added, and we act promptly on any barrier that is reported to us.
What we have done
-
Keyboard navigation
Every feature can be used with a keyboard alone. A visible focus indicator shows where you are, and a "skip to main content" link appears at the top of each page.
-
Screen reader support
Pages use semantic HTML, proper headings, landmarks and ARIA attributes so screen readers can announce structure and controls correctly.
-
Colour contrast
Text and interface components meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios in both the light and dark themes. Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
-
Text alternatives
Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
-
Responsive and zoomable
Content reflows at up to 400% zoom and on any screen size without horizontal scrolling or loss of functionality.
-
Accessible forms
Every field has a visible label. Required fields, help text and error messages are announced to assistive technology and shown in text.
-
Reduced motion
Animations are minimal and are disabled entirely if your device requests reduced motion.
-
Translation
A translation control at the top of every page can display content in Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Korean, Polish and Vietnamese.
Third-party content
Some services are provided by other organizations, such as the state crash report portal, the Illinois iPay payment system and the Google Translate widget. We cannot control the accessibility of those sites, but we will help you complete any task by another means if you run into a barrier — just contact us.
Alternative formats and assistance
If you need any information on this site in an alternative format — such as large print, a plain-text document or over the phone — we will provide it free of charge. You can also complete any online request in person at the station or by telephone.
