Items Required for Release

Items required for release may vary, however generally the following things are required:

  • The vehicle must be street legal or have a legal means of being transported away from the impound lot. This may include registration, dangerous defects, or title issues.
  • The registered owner must pick up the vehicle, unless documentation exists that allows another to do so.
  • The vehicle must be insured, registered, and be free of any holds by the Secretary of State.
  • The driver picking up the vehicle must have a valid driver's license.

Tows Following D.U.I.

If you were cited or arrested for D.U.I. or similar statute, your vehicle may be held for a period defined by Illinois Law. This hold can be explained to you by the arresting officer.

Admin / Investigative Holds

In some cases, vehicles cannot be released as they are being held pending an investigation or additional legal process. If your vehicle is subject to these holds, it can be explained by the towing officer.

Personal Property

In some cases, personal property may remain within a towed vehicle. The police department will release property within the vehicle if there is an established necessity, as determined by the Williamsville Police Department. No property may be released from vehicles that are seized as evidence. In some cases, towing fees must be paid prior to retrieving property.

Pick-Up Inspection

All vehicles picked up from the Williamsville Police Department must be inspected prior to release by the vehicle owner. Any reported damage will be photographed and investigated. Damage claims can be submitted to the tow company if they are investigated and determined to be damage from towing. Some towing damage may be the responsibility of the vehicle owner, depending on the circumstances of the tow.
