Sex Offender & Violent Offender Against Youth Registry

The State of Illinois maintains a Sex Offender Registry and a Violent Offender Against Youth Registry to help keep communities informed and safe. These registries are publicly accessible and searchable.

Important: The information in these registries is provided for community safety purposes only. Any use of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered offenders is strictly prohibited and may be a criminal offense under Illinois law.

Illinois Sex Offender Registry

The Sex Offender Registry tracks individuals convicted of sex offenses as defined under the Sex Offender Registration Act (730 ILCS 150). Registered offenders must report their residence to local law enforcement and keep their registration current.

Violent Offender Against Youth Registry

The Violent Offender Against Youth Registry tracks individuals convicted of specific violent crimes — such as first-degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, or aggravated battery — committed against a victim under 18 years of age, maintained under the Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registration Act (730 ILCS 154).

The U.S. Department of Justice maintains a national database that allows you to search for registered sex offenders across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and tribal lands.

Registration Requirements: Under Illinois law (730 ILCS 150), sex offenders must register with local law enforcement within 3 days of establishing a residence.

Violent Offender Against Youth: Under the Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registration Act (730 ILCS 154), individuals convicted of certain violent offenses against minors must register with local law enforcement. Qualifying offenses include first-degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and heinous battery, when committed against a person under 18.
