Peddling & Solicitation Ordinance

Per Village Ordinance 2026-02 (Chapter 222 of the Village Code), all persons who engage in peddling or solicitation must obtain a permit from the Village Hall prior to engaging in any peddling or solicitation activities within the Village of Williamsville.

Hours: Activities may not begin before 9:00 a.m. and must end no later than 30 minutes after dusk.
Place: Activities may be conducted in locations open to the public. Solicitors may not peddle or solicit at nursing homes, schools, or on private property without permission.
Conduct: Solicitors must be courteous and respectful. Aggressive or deceptive tactics and harassment are prohibited. If asked to leave private property, they must do so promptly.

Permit Requirements

Applications must be submitted at least 3 business days prior to the intended dates of solicitation. A decision will be made within 2 business days of receipt. The following are required:

  • Valid government-issued identification card
  • FBI Identity History Summary Check (dated within 60 days)
  • Illinois Criminal History Record (dated within 60 days)
  • $100.00 fee — paid in person at permit pickup

If approved, a permit with lanyard will be issued and is valid for 6 months.

Violations & Fines

A permit may be revoked at any time for a violation of Chapter 222 or any other Village ordinance. Serious or repeat violations may result in suspension or a permanent ban from peddling or soliciting within the Village.

1st Violation: $250
2nd Violation: $500
3rd+ Violation: $750 each
